“Standing Form”Tsubusa Kato

May.8 - May.31, 2015

Tsubusa Kato is an artist who has been praised in Japan and abroad for his sharp and dynamic works that have capitalized on the plasticity of kaolin.
Tsubusa Kato was born in 1962 to a family that worked in the casting industry in the Onada area of Tajimi city.
Kato honestly draws out the appeal of kaolin that is not trapped within the confines of the traditional notions of ceramic art.
He elevates this medium to a level that allows for his own expressive sculpting.
This exhibition primarily displays works that are in the series. Kato's works were not thought of in his head; rather, they were created through his body.
Therefore, in addition to the skill used to make the piece, the core of the moment in which the work was produced,
that is to say the artist's feeling of tension, becomes important.
