“Cut-and-paste”Atsushi Nakata

Sokyo Gallery is pleased to announce an inaugural solo exhibition of Atsushi Nakata. His ceramic works are known as wipe-lacquering on surface which brings out warm colors and soft texture like a weathered rock. The distinctive atmosphere carries a sense of nostalgia.
In this exhibition, we are pleased to introduce his new works created by the practice of “cut and paste”, using paper-thin slabs. A repeat of “cut and paste” breathes a new life into small individual pieces. Nakata’s ceramics have a perfect balance between the masculine roughness and fragile beauty in lots of layers of thin slabs. “Cut-and-paste” provides a good opportunity to glimpse a new frontier of Nakata and is a feast for your eyes.
