“be impressed…”Shoh Araya × Satoshi Mizushiro

Aug 21 - Aug 30, 2015

Opening Reception: Sat, Aug 22, 5pm - 7pm
Sokyo Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition by two emerging artists, Shoh Araya and Satoshi Mizushiro.
The striking design of Shoh Araya’s works, which features a polished, smooth surface of white porcelain and a clear blue glaze like springwater, captures the momentary stillness of nature. In addition to usable ceramic works including a basin, tea bowl, flower vase, and incense burner, he plans to exhibit miniature works, the smallest possible size ceramics made using the wheel. Araya is expected to be one of the artists who bring a breath of fresh air into the established tradition of bluish white porcelain.
Satoshi Mizushiro is known for his original and unique metal craft with motifs of creatures. His surreal, fantastical works of reptiles are generated from his free-spirited imagination, yet he produces precise impressions such as glossy skin or intricate shapes. In this exhibition, the works of small animals mimicking plants will be on display. Creatures turn into a unique work of art at the touch of Mizushiro’s hand. In particular, the rickshaw pulled by gold-plated tumblebug evokes 400 years’ history of Rimpa. Please come and see this exhibition if you are in or near Kyoto.
